jazz festival in beijing

Posted on May 27th, 2007 by jess : joy in rhythm & words love in music jess

that's right, 25may-31st beijing is having their ninegates jazz festival www.ninegates.com.cn

last night moreno wasn't available to play our sunday night gig at east shore jazz cafe. so i had huang yong, the guy who has organized the jazz festival to bring all the musicians over to east shore after the big concert at forbidden city music hall (every night!). he brought over the austrian trio (stefan bass, phillip piano, pieter drums) and an israeli piano player. a saxaphonist from german showed up (florian) and uziel from puerto rico on piano. plus local beijing jazz cats. we had a blast. it was so refreshing to play with such musicians. their feel is so different, their methods and manners, but mostly what i enjoyed were the body and face expressions that accompanied all the improvisation and playing. my god, it was a beautiful thing. at the end of body and soul, they broke into a lovely groove that felt so good. i really liked stefan, the bassist. i could jam with him for hours. ha. they were all amazing. we ended with round midnight, which was very powerful to sing.

tonight, junglecat, one of my bands, is playing at forbidden city concert hall in participation with the jazz festival. this is the 2nd Ninegates Jazz Festival, and the stage is just fantastic. i have a photo up i think.

anyhow, we'll see how it goes. i feel physically not done up enough just yet, but a little hair pulling and makeup making things should fall into place.

having a blast with my life right now - everything is filled with magic, energy, exploration, adventure, play and most of all, love.
